Francesco Vanni d’Archirafi is Chairman Citibank Europe Plc.
Mr. Vanni d’Archirafi has worked for Citigroup and its predecessor companies for the past 23 years. Before being appointed to his current position in June 2003, he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Citibank International plc and the European Customer Group Executive for Citigroup’s Corporate Bank.
Between 1998 and 2001, he was based in Madrid as Market Manager for Iberia responsible for the Corporate Bank and customer relationships in Spain and Portugal, and Country Corporate Officer for Spain. From 1996, he was Co-Head and Managing Director for Global M&A, based in London. Between 1990 and 1996, he was based in Milan and appointed Corporate Finance Head for Italy leading Citibank’s efforts in advisory and merchant banking activities in 1993.
Between 1987 and 1990, Mr. Vanni d’Archirafi was based in London responsible for Citibank’s Southern European Structured Finance business, handling acquisition financing and highly leveraged transactions in Italy and Spain. He relocated to London from Peru where he was Country Treasurer from 1986. He joined Citibank in 1983 as a Management Associate in New York.
Mr. Vanni d’Archirafi is the Chairman of Citibank Holdings Ireland Ltd and Citibank Ireland Financial Services plc, and serves on the Boards of Gemmo S.p.A., Mapfre America S.A., Clearstream International and LCH.Clearnet.
Passionate about community and volunteerism, he is Chairman of Junior Achievement - Young Enterprise (JA-YE) Europe, Board member of Junior Achievement Worldwide and Business in the Community, Co-Chair of ENGAGE, and a member of the Advisory Board of Fundacion Empresa y Sociedad.
Born in Munich, Germany, he spent his youth living in Rome, Madrid, Brussels and Buenos Aires. In 1981, Mr Vanni d’Archirafi graduated Magna Cum Laude from the American University in Washington D.C. with a BSBA degree in Finance. He received the Stanley I. Posner Award given to the graduating senior with the highest overall academic average. In 1983, he obtained an MBA in Finance and International Business from Columbia University in New York.
